Miramar’s
Library
Our library is a great place to study, do homework, use the computers, read, and much more. The library is located in building L-200. It is open 5 days a week, the hours of the library are: Monday-Thursday 8:00 am - 8:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am - 12:00 pm. Here are some different resources and reasons why you should attend the library.
The first resource of using the library is that there are plenty of computers to use for free if you don’t have Internet
at home. Free WIFI available for all students to use. There is also a printer
to use if you are doing homework and need to print something for class. Each
page you print consists of .10 cents. Some of you may be thinking who do I pay
to use the printer. Well actually you don’t pay anyone. Every student should
have a student ID card, so if you desire to print something out you will need
to go into this small room (right next to the computers) and there will be what
looks like a coin machine. What you will need to do is swipe your student ID
card then put coins or dollars into the machine. Once you are done, the money
will automatically go onto your card. Then you will go back to your computer
and once you are finished typing you press print and a box will pop up asking
you for your student ID number and what you would like the file name to be. You
then will go back to that small room and there will be a printer. Swipe your
student ID card again and your papers should show up right away. Then it will
tell you how much you need to pay and then you click print and out will come
your papers. Along with the printer there are also four copy machines. You may
copy anything you like and the cost still stands at .10 cents a page.
A second resource the library offers is books and texbooks. If you like to read or
need a book for class you may check one out. But if you check one out it can
only be used in the library, you may not take it home or even step outside with
it. If you are at home and you need a certain book or textbook for class,
instead of driving all the way to campus, you can just go onto the Miramar College
website go to the library page and you can search the catalog to see if they actually have that book you need.
A final resource is if you need room to lay out textbooks, papers, binders, pens, pencils,
highlighters, or anything in order to study or do homework the library has more
than enough tables. Each table has at least room for four people to sit and work
on their work. If you want something a little more private so that you don’t
get distracted they have rooms in the very back of the library that you can use
for study groups or even just go in there because it makes studying quite.
So we asked five students, what benefits you the most when you use the
library? Here’s what some students said.
1. James Lee, 19, majoring in Biology “The study room benefits me because
I get to meet my classmates for group projects and also computers and printers.”
2. Hanh Pham, 20, majoring in Mechanical Engineering “Using the computer
and printers to do my homework.”
3. Erick Nguyen, 20, majoring in Business Administration “Meeting with
classmates in the study room to discuss group assignments.”
4. Al-Hakam Jameel, 21, majoring in Biochemistry “The study room because
it’s quite and can meet with classmates.”
5. Kellie Beck, 18, majoring in General Education “Being able to use the
computers, printers, and also because there are tables where you can do
homework and it’s quite.”
Please go and check out the library because it has a lot of great and different resources that will help you throughout your semester's of college!
This was a pretty good insight into the resources that the campus library has. I wasnt aware that if you want to check out a book or texbook you cant take it home. This is kind of a bummer but I suppose makes sense because people probably never returned them. Its also a very interesting policy they have on printing. It sounds kind of complex but Im sure if I were to go in there it would probably be fairly simple. I definitly like how it explains about studying is so easy in quiet in there. I get distracted pretty easily so this would probably be a great location for me to study.
ReplyDeleteI have been to the library and it is a quiet place to study and work. The only disadvantage is not being able to take books home. I love reading in my room, and I love books. I just wish the library had variation on their policies; for instance, you can check out a book and have 12 days to return it. It could be like a public library. I completely understand it’s a college library, but if someone forgets their change in their car, then they have no way of paying for their assignment. Maybe one of the benefits can be free printing. Although, the library is a nice environment to work in, and the ladies who work at the front counter are also nice.
ReplyDeleteThe library is the ultimate place for anybody who needs to finish their assignments. It is about 99% of the time quiet for me to focus on my homework assignments compared to home in my opinion. This is a place for me to be secluded to a working enviroment. The computers are quick and reliable in the library and there are more in the library for everyone to use. Textbooks are always available for those who does not own a textbook. Printing at the library is cheaper than printing at the local library. In the library there are books but not as much as local librarys have. I wish they can fill up their bookshelves for more books available to current college students.
ReplyDeleteThe library seems to be a great resource to study or do homework if you can't find a quiet place to go. The i.d/currency system seems like a great idea;It also seems like it could cause some confusion. My favorite thing about the library is all the available space. When i go somewhere to study I want to have a great amount of space because i become unorganized quickly. I've only been in the library for a brief moment. But, it seems like a great quiet place to study and get work done efficiently. The study rooms seem like a great idea if you have a project to do with class mates. You can meet there because everyone knows where it is and it is a great quiet building.
ReplyDeleteI really think that Miramar's library has everything I need! The hours work well with my schedule and I love the fact that I can bring my computer to any location and have a solid connection to Wifi. There is several open computers that run the newest and most update Microsoft along with all its applications such as Word, Powerpoint and Excel. The library even has a small room dedicated to printing and copying. I don't own either a printer or a copy machine so it works very well for me. The only thing that can be improved upon is if you accidentally lose your ID Card then you can't preform printing tasks, because it's linked to your CCID Card Number. The textbooks are limited the library didn't have any course books that I needed. All in all great for computer and basic needs, but I'm glad I have access to it. I use
ReplyDeletethe facility about 2 or 3 times a week.
You are right; it is the best place to study and use all the resource for your classes. I have been there few times only just to print out my homework but never got chance to sit there and study. Lots of students seem to enjoy that we have such quite place to study, do homework, research and even have group study in study room and at the end print out their papers right there for only 10 cents. I remember the old library that was way smaller than what we have now and sometimes you had to wait for an open seat. Hopefully I get more chance to go the more often.
ReplyDeleteThe library is a great place to study or do homework. And if you ever need to use the computer They have all kinds of books and lots of info on how to use the printers or copiers i go to the library every time i have class to get homework done. Also just to chill and unwind its cool that the computers have Microsoft word because without that i would probably not be able to get my homework done.
ReplyDeleteI have been to the library on various occasions. I usually go to the library in between classes to get some peace and quiet. I also use the resources available in the library to help with any school homework or projects. The new library is a lot better than the old library, it is bigger with more space, it is well organized, and is the perfect place for studying. I like the i.d use that the library has implemented it is very convenient. Students can put money on their i.d cards and can use the i.d to make copies and print paper work. The library is great place for us students and should be taken advantage of.
ReplyDeleteI used the library almost everyday I attended college. It's probably the best source for using the internet. When I used to go there I would usually print out my homework or study. Its nice and quiet place to go when you want to relax and study. This article will help people understand how the library works. The staff are nice and always there to help. The library has all the books you need for each class you take. So every student should take advantage of the library.
ReplyDeleteI have been to the library to do homework only but after reading this I learned stuff about the library that I didn't know. For one the book check out I didn't know so it' won't be embarrassing typing to get a book and have the alarm go off
ReplyDeleteI have been to the miramar library a few times this semester and its a great place to get some reading done and a great place to study without too many distractions. The library is a great resource for me because it is open until 8pm so i can always go there and study instead of crowded Starbucks and is also very helpful to have access to a printer and internet so i can print work last minute. The best thing and my favorite resource the library has to offer is the private rooms for group studies or a more quiet place to study since i get distracted easily. Now lets get to what i don't like about the library. I don't like that you cant check out books and take them home, I thought that the was the point of a library is to check out a book and take it home read and return it when you are done.

The $39.4 million Miramar College Library/Learning Resource Center is a three-story, 100,000-square-foot facility that provides state-of-the-art teaching and independent learning spaces, a new library, classrooms, computer labs, tutoring services, a media production facility, café, and faculty and staff offices and work spaces.
The LLRC is designed to obtain a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), and includes a number of sustainable features:
Design maximizes both daylight and views to the outside, increasing user comfort and productivity, and reducing the need for artificial light.
All windows use "high performance" glass that allows sunlight to filter into the building, but reduces the amount of UV light and solar heat entering the building
Extensive use of construction and design materials made with recycled content
Materials are locally produced or harvested, and will produce little or no chemical fumes
High efficiency plumbing and electrical fixtures
Light colored roofing, concrete paving and canopy-type trees reduce the heat absorbed and re-radiated from the building and site
A rooftop deck will provide gathering space and area for future solar photovoltaic panels
Trees and shrubs have been selected for their compatibility to the area, to provide shade and to minimize the need for water
A high efficiency irrigation system uses reclaimed water, and utilizes a controller that adjusts itself to local weather, resulting in significant water savings
Diversion of at least 75% of construction waste from local landfills
Library is the most and wonderful place to study or check out books. After reading this blog made me realize that everything you need to succeed in school is at the library. Such as studying, meet people, check out books and most of all Internet because you might not have that at home. Library for me is like Barnes and novel my favorite place and I found out that I have another favorite place.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips! I personally had a little trouble with the payment and how to do it. I even had to ask a librarian for some assistance. This is a great well written piece and can be very useful to anyone new to the school. I find myself in the library every time I go to school for any kind of homework. Their resources are like no other and they have everything you need in one room. I even go here just to get away from everything and have some peace and quiet while on campus. Great work and thank you!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very well written and informative article. I only went to the library once for 6 minutes and I can honestly say that I didn't feel love haha. I was having an issue with the printers and it seemed like the library staff didn't really want to help me out. That was just my experience though. If I needed a book or needed to do some research with a classmate, I would go and study there. The library was quiet and the students were all respectful of eachother. It was a nice environment except the library staff. I must of just had a bad luck day.....
