Our school library is one great place on campus to
quietly study and find resources. The library, which is located in building
L-200, offers different things like a place to study, do homework, use
computers, print items out, read, and much more. The hours of operation for the
Library are Monday-Thursday: 8:00am-8:00pm, and Friday: 8:00am-12:00pm. Here is
just a short list of resources that the library offers, and why you should take
advantage of them.
One resource the library has to offer is the
printers and copiers. There are 3 photocopiers located inside the copy center.
The machines accept dollar bills, quarters, dimes, and nickels. The cost for
each copy depends on exactly what you are copying. All 8 1/2x 11 and 11x17 are
10 cents each. In order to use the copier and printer, you will go into a small
room and swipe your I.D card. You will then insert your coins and it will load
to your student I.D card. You then go back to the computer and push print. A
box will appear and will ask for your I.D number. It will then print off your
page and automatically take the money out for you. There is one black and white
copy printer located in the library. It costs 10 cents per page, but you must
have an I.D card to print pages. This is an easy and convenient way to print
things if a printer is not available for you at home.
Another resource the library has to offer is the
books and textbooks. You are able to check any book out at the library as long
as you are currently enrolled at Miramar College. You must also obtain an I.D
card for Miramar. Although you can check out textbooks and reading books, you
cannot remove the books from the libraries. The library also has a list of
books that you can access online to see if it is available to you. The library
also has over 30K E-books and just as many check out books. In case you need
help with any of the books, you can use the reference book to find information
out.
A final resource the library has to offer is the 8
Group Study Rooms. There are private rooms available for groups of 2 or more
for those people in need of quiet study. There are also white boards in each
one of the individual study rooms in order to draw things out if needed. The
rooms are on a first come, first serve basis. No reservations are expected in
advance. The amount of time for each room is an hour, or more, if no groups are
waiting. In order to check out one of the study rooms, you must show a current
I.D card for Miramar College. In order to help with the private room studies,
there is a Reserves area behind the circulation desk. Check the desk for
materials available to specific class names and numbers. Reserve materials are
available upon first come, first serve cases. No holds on books is accepted.
When coming up with resources for the Library, we
came up with a question to ask a few students on campus at Miramar College. We
simply asked “With the many benefits the library has to offer, Do you feel
anything can be improved?” These were the responses we received:
Sam, 19, Business Major- “For me the library is
about perfect because it so much to offer. I do think though that the only
thing that can change is possibly how you check out books.”
David, 20, Business Major- “I haven’t been to the
library real often but the one time I did go they were strict on taking books
home. So that’s the only thing I can think of I guess.”
Adrian, 18, Undeclared - “No, the library pretty
much has everything to offer so I don’t feel there is.”
Alexia, 22, Psychology Major- “Taking books home is
probably what most people would agree with, so yeah that can be better.”
The library is a great resource to study in and also do homework in the quite. My group and I just did a post about the Miramar library and all the information you guys gathered was the same as ours and it's great information. I did not know that the library had 30K Ebooks provided for us. I think that is excellent for the students because if they need a certain book then most likely the library will have it and you won't have to go to the Mira Mesa library to find a book you really need. I agree with one of the students that was interviewed about taking the books home with us. I think we should be able to take a book or two home with us every now and then because if you do not have the book and you don't have enough time to stay at the library then we can't use that book until we have time to stay at the library. I mean we are college students and most of us are more than responsible to take home books and then bring them back when they need to be returned. I feel that the school should really consider students taking home a book and then bring it back. What are the specific materials for the classrooms? I really like the fact that they have study rooms for students to just get away from all the distractions and just focus on what they need to get done!!
ReplyDeleteThe library one of the best places to study or do homework. And if you ever need to use the computer They have all kinds of books and lots of info on how to use the library catalog. I go to the library every time i have class to get homework done. Also just to chill and unwind its cool that the computers have Microsoft word because without that i would probably not be able to get my homework done. Its also a nice place to get some rest in between classes.
ReplyDeleteI went to the library for the first time on Monday. I thought it was very nice and had a lot of computers to use. I didn't go to the textbook section but it looked like they had a huge selection to choose from. The one thing i wasn't happy with was the process of printing something. In my opinion they made the process a lot more complicated than it needs to be. In high school I didnt need to swipe an i.d and put money into my account. All I had to do was put a quarter in and print. Other than that, I was pleased with the quality of the library. It seems to be newly renovated. The library is a great resource if you need a quiet place to do work.
ReplyDeleteSo after reading this blog post on the library I didn't really learn much more about it then what I read in the previous article about the library. I still havent had an opportunity to stop in there and see for myself but i definetly plan to in the near future. From both articles I could tell that there are tons of available resources that can be used in the library. I really like the 8 study group rooms that are available. If I ever have to work on a group project or just need some quiet study time to myself this seems like a great resource to take advantage of.
ReplyDeleteThe library it's a great place to study and get your homework done. Whenever I need to work on a homework assignment I go to the library to get my homework done. I take advantage of using the computers and printer because I don't have a computer, printer and wifi at home. I didn't know the library had e-books that's really cool. The best part I like the most of the library is that its really quiet and you can focus on your work and if you want something more private you can reserved one of the many rooms they have on the back to focus on your work or to meet with your classmates to work on a group assignment. When you enter the library I like going to the right side of the library because it has books and tables and smaller tables where you can sit and study or just read. Whenever I show up at school 2hrs early before my class starts I go to the library to use the computers or read a book and relax before class. Students should definitely take advantage of the library because it has many resources to offer us.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the library! Honestly I have been using the library twice a week this semester. I love the fact that you can find a computer to work on with ease. The internet is really fast. I watch a lot of videos from my sociology class and I rarely have trouble streaming them. The house work well with my schedule 8am - 8p. It really seems that they are trying to meet the needs of the majority of the students. The only down fall is that their textbooks are very limited. They didn't have 3 of my 4 classes. Which is a real down fall. I think its because the editions change so fast that the schools don't want to fund something that is a unnecessary. As far as comparing it to Mesa College you don't have to walk up 250 stairs to get to the library, Miramar has a way better design.

ReplyDeleteI have been to the miramar library a few times this semester and its a great place to get some reading done and a great place to study without too many distractions. The library is a great resource for me because it is open until 8pm so i can always go there and study instead of crowded Starbucks and is also very helpful to have access to a printer and internet so i can print work last minute. The best thing and my favorite resource the library has to offer is the private rooms for group studies or a more quiet place to study since i get distracted easily. Now lets get to what i don't like about the library. I don't like that you cant check out books and take them home, I thought that the was the point of a library is to check out a book and take it home read and return it when you are done.

The $39.4 million Miramar College Library/Learning Resource Center is a three-story, 100,000-square-foot facility that provides state-of-the-art teaching and independent learning spaces, a new library, classrooms, computer labs, tutoring services, a media production facility, café, and faculty and staff offices and work spaces.
The LLRC is designed to obtain a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), and includes a number of sustainable features:
Design maximizes both daylight and views to the outside, increasing user comfort and productivity, and reducing the need for artificial light.
All windows use "high performance" glass that allows sunlight to filter into the building, but reduces the amount of UV light and solar heat entering the building
Extensive use of construction and design materials made with recycled content
Materials are locally produced or harvested, and will produce little or no chemical fumes
High efficiency plumbing and electrical fixtures
Light colored roofing, concrete paving and canopy-type trees reduce the heat absorbed and re-radiated from the building and site
A rooftop deck will provide gathering space and area for future solar photovoltaic panels
Trees and shrubs have been selected for their compatibility to the area, to provide shade and to minimize the need for water
A high efficiency irrigation system uses reclaimed water, and utilizes a controller that adjusts itself to local weather, resulting in significant water savings
Diversion of at least 75% of construction waste from local landfills
Library is my most favorite place in our school! You can study there quietly and silently. All of the resources that you needed is there. The books, study tables that is very comfortable to use. There is the librarians that is so very helpful if you need assistance or help. They are always welcome to help in everything!. The computers that if you don't have you laptop you can use those for free and do some research and typed some of your writing assignments. The printing section that is so convenient if you need to print something or to photo copy everything that you need. That's why I can stay at library the whole just to study!
ReplyDeleteLibrary is the most and wonderful place to study or check out books. After reading this blog made me realize that everything you need to succeed in school is at the library. Such as studying, meet people, check out books and most of all Internet because you might not have that at home. Library for me is like Barnes and novel my favorite place and I found out that I have another favorite place.
ReplyDeleteThe library is a quiet place to study and relax while reading a book. It’s a great place to get assignments done. For instance, the library has various resources to write a paper; it has computers, dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc. Miramar College is very well built and has a classy look. Although, there is a disappointment of not being able to take home books and a few other cons, but the library is pretty much like any other public library. People usually go to libraries to listen to music in peace, or study and read; the college library exhibits an environment to do just that.
ReplyDeleteThe new Miramar Library is very impressive. It is a major upgrade from the old library that was a lot smaller. There are a lot of features in the new library that did not exist in the old library. There were also space issues due to library being so small. Everything in the library is in abundance. There are more tables for studying, book selection is bigger, and there are a lot more computers being offered. The library is nice, quiet and well maintained. Students can go to the library to catch up some studying or just want read a book, kill time before a class, copy some papers, or just finish up a paper for class.
ReplyDeleteI have been to the library to do homework only but after reading this I learned stuff about the library that I didn't know. For one the book check out I didn't know so it' won't be embarrassing typing to get a book and have the alarm go off
ReplyDeleteI love the library. Its much better than high school libraries because they provide excellent service. Everything you need from text books to regular college books are right there for you. Favorite part is how well they keep the place quite and organized. Its probably the best resource on campus for every student. The staff is well trained to provide the best service possible. I haven't gone there this semester but I heard they buffed it up a bit. I might have to go check it out to see the improvements they made.
ReplyDeleteThe library is once again a chilled place to do some homework. Its the place for every student to use the computer, group studying, or whatsoever. I go there during my semester to mainly focus on my school work and also do some group study for upcoming exams. The staff is friendly and book rental usage thingy helps other students that they can use text books with bringing it or buying it. overall its a great place to go to.
ReplyDeleteI have been to the library a number of times and I have not heard of the group rooms until now. Wow. If only I knew that last semester. Thats definitely something I will have to check out on my next visit or group project. Going along with your question, the library already has everything one would need. It's got your wifi, computers, books, printers, copier machine, private rooms, lounge area, there is even a little snack and coffee bar just below. All in all I find the library to be one of the best resources to get all your homework and studying done.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the library! It has computers with free internet and they also have printers if you can't print at home. The cost to print adds up but if you are in a bind, then it is helpful. I never knew they had group rooms either until now! That is awesome. Maybe next semester I will be able to utilize it instead of meeting up at other peoples homes. The WIFI I love! Data is money and the library helps you save money in that aspect. This is a wonderful article and you guys really showed everyone what the library offers.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this article again to do with the library, I would agree with what the students said about checking out books. Every student has an Miramar Student I.D card. If they are able to put money on it to use the printers, then they can be used to keep track of the books being checked out. I don't see why they can't be taken home. If anything, that is the biggest drawback of going to the library and not being able to check out anybook. I did like the atmosphere though. I could see all the brainstorm clouds over all the students heads so it must be a good place to go to study haha.
